of the North Carolina Waterworks Operators Association Handbook.
This
cover was originally not just one photo—we cobbled
together multiple images to look like one image. The top of the tree
had also been cut off in the photo. Using the original images, we recreated
the top of the tree and added a section of sky above it. The sky had
to be matched to the original in "noise", the
graininess in the original photo, and gradient, the fading of sky from
one shade into a deeper shade, or it would have been especially obvious
that we had only added color. We then worked in the water with a suggestion
of "beach" and a reflection of the tree in the water in order to make
it look like the tree had actually grown along the water's edge.
